Lead ACCI Professor
Marietta Coleman Monaghan, Professor, Kennesaw State University
Marietta Coleman Monaghan has a life-long passion for good design, but her early adulthood was spent as a professional athlete, training and showing fine horses and students in Combined Training Events and horse shows all over the Southern states and California. Her day job was in sales, promoting manufacturer’s products to architects and builders and bidding on construction projects for her specialty lines as a subcontractor. Later, she went into the landscaping business with her husband. He managed the crews while she designed the planting, managed light construction and sales. Since Marietta had a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing as well as in Art History (double major) these activities all came easily to her.
Later, Marietta went back to school to earn her MA in Art History, taking many classes at night. Under the guidance of her professor she decided to pursue a PhD at Georgia Tech, where she also took another master’s degree, this time in Architectural History. She has taught at Kennesaw State University for over 10 years in the Architecture and Construction Management department, where she teaches both studio and architecture culture classes.
Originally from Birmingham AL, Marietta currently lives in Marietta, GA, only a couple of miles from KSU. Here she gardens and paints and continues a long-term plan for remodeling her house. She is active in outreach programs such as the Future Cities Competition, Science Olympiad, and working with the PSLSAMP program and the Alpha Rho Chi (architecture) fraternity at KSU. Giving back to the community has always been a high priority for Marietta, and she is delighted to be involved in ACCI’s exciting programs.
