2013-2014

  • Akin Oladele won third place in the Education competition at the 20th Annual SAEOPP McNair/SSS Scholars Research Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on June 26-29th.
  • David Cherry won third place in the undergraduate research poster contest with his research entitled “RVO Collision Avoidance in Unity 3D” at the 2014 ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing in Seattle, Washington on February 5-8th.
  • Joshua Posey will present his research entitled “Comparative Review of the ECA and SMS Recycling Tools” at the 2014 ACM SIGCSE Student Research Competition in Atlanta, Georgia on March 6-8th.
  • David Cherry will present his research entitled “RVO Collision Avoidance in Unity 3D” at the 2014 ACM SIGCSE Student Research Competition in Atlanta, Georgia on March 6-8th.
  • David Brickler will present his CRC Lab research entitled “Using Interactive Storytelling Agents to Broaden Participation in Computing” at the 2014 ACM SIGCSE Student Research Competition in Atlanta, Georgia on March 6-8th.
  • Robertson Bassy and John Porter will present thier research entitled “Utilizing Embodied Conversational Agents For College Writing Labs” at the 2014 ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing in Seattle, Washington on February 5-8th.
  • David Cherry will present his research entitled “RVO Collision Avoidance in Unity 3D” at the 2014 ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing in Seattle, Washington on February 5-8th.
  • Jonathan R. Johnson will present his research entitled “Human Computing Interaction: Blended Learning with Culturally Situated Design Tools,” at the 2014 ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing in Seattle, Washington on February 5-8th.
  • Jordan Earls and Keythe Gentry’s research abstracts on sustainability computing have been accepted for presentation at the 2014 Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM in Washington, DC February 20-22.
  • Joshua Posey was awarded 2nd place for his research poster presentation at the NSF STARS Celebration in Atlanta, Georgia on August 15-17. His poster centered on the redesign of the virtual mentoring system.
  • CRCL Director Dr. Kinnis Gosha was awarded funding from the Coalition to Diversify Computing (CDC) and the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W) to support four undergraduate research students for the 2013-2014 school year through the Collaborative Research Experience for Undergraduates (CREU) program. The award includes money for student stipends (school year and summer), student travel and equipment.

2012-2013

  • Marvin Turner was awarded a travel scholarship to attend the 2013 XSEDE13 supercomputing conference in San Diego, CA July 22-25.
  • Darnell Coleman, Christopher Gaines, Channing Vanderbilt and Robertson Bassy were awarded scholarships to attend the 2013 Software Engineering Conference in Bolder, CO April 1-5. The event is sponsored by the University Corporation of Atmospheric Research.
  • The following CRCL students were selected to participate in a summer research opportunity with the indicated research universities in the summer of 2013: Akin Oladele (Stanford University), David Cherry (University of Minnesota), Jassiem Ifill (University of Minnesota), Darnell Coleman (Clemson University), Austin Tucker (Georgia Tech), Essick Allen (University of Hawaii at Hilo), Jonathan Johnson (Auburn University), and Marvin Turner (Georgia Tech).
  • CRCL Lab Director Dr. Kinnis Gosha was awarded funding from the Coalition to Diversify Computing (CDC) and the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W) to sponsor a Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) to encourage women and minorities to pursue graduate education in computer science and engineering.
  • Marvin Turner and Benard Dickens, III were selected to participate in and receive funding from the NSF Facilitating Academic Careers in Engineering and Science (FACES) program.
  • Jamal Thorne placed 2nd out of 71 entries in the 2012 STARS Alliance Research Poster Competition in Hampton, VA.

  • Kenneth McKanders, Justin Grier and Austin Tucker were accepted to participate in the 2012 Summer REU program in Human Centered Computing at Clemson University.
  • Shawn Wilkinson was invited to participate in an REU opportunity at the University of Washington in the Sensorimotor Neural Engineering lab for the Summer of 2012.
  • David Brickler was invited to participate in a summer REU program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the Human Centered Computing Department in the Summer of 2012.
  • Myles Nicholson was invited to conduct research at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California in the Summer of 2012.
  • Brockton Starling was awarded the 2012 MAPPS Research Symposium Award for Computer Science
  • Khabir Muhammad was invited to conducted research at Boeing in Bellevue, WA in the Summer of 2012
