Jaye Nias is a recent graduate of Bowie State University’s doctoral program in computer science in Bowie, Maryland. She was the first woman and the first African-American student to complete this program and the recipient of the computer science department’s dissertation of the year award. Currently, Jaye is an assistant professor in computer science at Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia where her research focus in the field of data visualizations and culturally relevant technology. Most recently, she was selected as a 2018 Black ComputeHer Fellow and serves on various outreach based initiatives that build impact through computing and technology integration for civic engagement.
