Are you considering graduate school or currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in Computing? Do you need funding or need additional funds to fill in the gaps to support your studies and complete your degree? Please consider joining us for the Fellowship Writing Workshop Series to learn about fellowship opportunities and receive personalized feedback on key components of an application.
All are welcome to participate whether it is for the entire series or a one-time drop in. The goal of this series is to equip participants with greater knowledge of fellowships, review multiple fellowship opportunities, as well as encourage those who engage to plan, write and receive personalized feedback to assist in the development of stronger fellowship applications.
During the series, we will:
- Go over top tips and lessons learned from fellowship awardees
- Answer questions like “How do I apply?” and “Where do I apply?”
- Review IAAMCS Select Fellowship List and provide information on other Computer Science Awards, Scholarships & Fellowships
- Use the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP) as a reference/guide to help you develop your fellowship proposal
- Discuss what makes a strong application: Personal, Relevant Background and Future Goals and Graduate Research Plan Statements as well as Submission Development
- Run through iterations of your proposal and allow time for live, peer-feedback and follow-up feedback from experts
- Explore other parts of a fellowship applications: eligibility, reference letters, proposed field(s) of study, education, work and other experiences
- Develop summer plans that you might use to present and enhance your proposal

This hybrid series includes a combination of live webinars that take place on a bi-monthly basis, feedback from experts who review your writing samples after the workshop (see Our Workshop Process) and a couple of in-person sessions (TBA). All of these efforts work together to get your individual fellowship proposal camera ready.
When you register for the series, we ask that you complete a pre-writing assignment. In the pre-writing assignment, we ask you to share with us “your journey to this point and where you want to go next.” It is your unique journey that will help you in this process to build out the narrative for your proposal. The narrative and other documents you submit will be reviewed by peers and experts who will also provide you with feedback. All of the in-person meetings will be announced in advance and shared amongst those who have registered for the series.

Target Audience: Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral students. The workshops will be tailored to those who are present to meet their needs. Additionally, workshop facilitators may work with student pairs to address where they are in their writing process adequately.
